HMD Fusion, which previously produced mainly entry-level smartphones, has introduced one of the most unusual devices of recent times. The Fusion model can be modified using different modules. In addition, the device must be repaired at home.
The back cover of HMD Fusion is attached with standard screws, which makes it easy to disassemble the smartphone and access the battery and other components. The manufacturer has entered into an agreement with iFixit, which will sell spare parts for repairs for 7 years from the date of release of the device. At the same time, it is important to note that the device is protected against dust and water according to the IP68 standard.
HMD Fusion is here – a radically new and innovative approach to smartphones and what they can do.
This Development Toolkit is intended to provide key details of the physical design dimensions, hardware interface, and software development APIs that are used to enable development of smart outfits for HMD Fusion.
Replacement modules for HMD Fusion come in the form of cases that connect to special connectors on the back of the smartphone. A gamepad case, a version with a powerful flash, a shockproof case, as well as modules with wireless charging and a barcode scanner have already been announced.
HMD has also launched the Fusion Development Toolkit, where anyone can create their own modules using 3D printing.
In terms of characteristics, you should not expect anything outstanding from the smartphone: it is a 6.56-inch IPS screen with HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90 Hz, a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, 6/8 GB of RAM, 128/256 GB of storage, a 5000 mAh battery with support for 33W charging, a 108 MP main camera and a 50 MP front camera. Two years of Android updates and three years of security patches are claimed.
The HMD Fusion will cost from 249 euros. The cost of the modules has not yet been announced.
