Gaming demands a large screen. Android supports large-screened devices, including tablets. Gamers want as much performance as possible. Nubia has merged those ideas to put together the Redmagic Nova Gaming Tablet.
An interesting novelty from the Red Magic brand was tested by journalists. The moderately priced Nova tablet offers a built-in cooler, advanced hardware, and a 144Hz display. Here are the tests of the device and media reviews.
Redmagic Nova Gaming Tablet Design, screen, battery
The design of the gadget immediately speaks of a gaming focus, according to PC Mag. The aluminum case has a transparent insert, and the brand logo and mini fan have customizable RGB lighting. There are no complaints about the build quality. With a moderate weight (530 grams) and a small thickness (7.3 mm), the tablet is quite compact. There are four speakers with stereo sound and a finger scanner in the power key. The USB-C port is capable of broadcasting to an external monitor.
There is no audio jack – a strange solution, given that the company’s phones have a place for it. The display is represented by a 10.9-inch IPS matrix with a resolution of 2880×1800 (312 ppi) and a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. Although the latter is a nice bonus, because on the eye the smoothness is about the same as with the 120 Hz preset. The maximum brightness is decent – 550 nits. At the same time, the shades are saturated as for an LCD panel. There is also a responsive sensor (840 Hz), which is useful for fast response in games.
The 10,100 mAh battery supports 80-watt charging. Red Magic promises up to 10 hours of continuous operation of the novelty. As the TechRadar columnist clarifies, this figure is achieved only in simple scenarios with low brightness and a frequency of 60 Hz. If you turn these values to the maximum, up to 17% of the charge can be consumed in half an hour of gaming, which was recorded in the game Warzone Mobile. However, with moderate use, the device can easily survive a full day. Replenishing the battery to 100% takes about an hour.
Redmagic Nova Gaming Tablet Performance & Software
The gadget is built on the Snapdragon Gen 3 Leading Version processor. This is an overclocked version of the Qualcomm chipset, where the maximum clock speed of the X4 core is 3.4 GHz, and the Adreno 750 graphics system is 1 GHz. In the top configuration, 16 GB of RAM (LPDDR5X) and 512 GB of storage (UFS 4.0) are available. In Geekbench 6, the results are 2214 and 6989 points. In general, the system perfectly copes with demanding hits and any tasks.
According to PhoneBuff testing, the tablet consistently holds high scores in the 3DMark benchmark. The cooling system led by the cooler helps. Moreover, everything is implemented without an air outlet hole – it circulates inside the case, since there is much more space here than in smartphones. Due to this, resistance to dust and moisture has been increased, and the noise level has been reduced. In COD Warzone, at maximum settings, the device demonstrates 90 fps; in Genshin Impact, 60 fps is held without problems (this is the maximum frame rate in this game). An external controller, as well as a mouse and keyboard, can be used almost anywhere.
Android 14 OS with RedMagic OS 9.5 firmware is pre-installed. Support from the manufacturer, alas, will be short-lived – one numbered update and two years of security patches have been announced. When connected to a monitor or TV, a convenient console mode starts. At the same time, the touch screen can be used for control in games. There is a rear 50-megapixel camera and a 20 MP front camera. Both sensors shoot well, and three microphones provide good sound quality.
Redmagic Nova Gaming Tablet Limitations
There are some caveats to all this. The first is that this is a Wi-Fi-only device with no cellular option. It’s safe to assume you’ll have a mobile phone alongside the Nova, and you can hotspot, but it means you are tied to a two-device solution or reliant on public infrastructure.
