Recently, Honor has released a new product, the MagicBook Art 14. One of the main features (in addition to the removable webcam) is a very modest size with a fairly impressive hardware.
The model weighs a little more than a kilogram, only a centimeter thick, but it works without recharging for almost ten hours. In terms of characteristics, it is an ideal machine for working in unpredictable conditions. To check whether paper data coincides with reality, we took MagicBook Art 14 under our arm and went to the cold November Moscow and Moscow region to work in a variety of places.
In the car
Raise your hand to anyone who has ever tried to open a laptop and work in a car. Formally, it should be convenient – no one interferes, the air conditioner heats up, sit and knock on the keyboard. Practice makes its own adjustments: the laptop does not fit into the space between the passenger and the torpedo, the corners of the gadget rip off the door trim (under the disapproving look of the driver), and if you also have problems with the vestibular system, then even the slightest task turns into torture.
With the MagicBook Art 14, the situation is different: the device fits comfortably on the lap even in a small C-class sedan. There was quite a lot of room left for hands, so you could easily type, edit illustrations in articles, and so on. Thanks to the bright screen, I didn’t have to peer into the text and rack my eyes when the device bounced slightly in the pits near Moscow. By the way, a huge touchpad helped out – you can even do without a mouse.
In the park and in the country
The dream of an employee with a remote job: while everyone is suffocating in stuffy offices and apartments, you can walk to the nearest park, where you can work in the fresh air, admiring the squirrels, autumn leaves, and unemployed marginals passing by. Or even drive to the dacha, pour coffee, go out on the porch and send a report to the boss in the middle of a landscape idyll.
In reality, all plans go to a well-known place, when it becomes a little lighter outside than in the cellar. And with the appearance of the sun’s rays, it is better to go home at all – the screen begins to glare so that you need to break all your eyes just to see at least something. Therefore, only models with very contrasting displays are suitable for conditional “work in the park”.
We were unlucky — during the testing of MagicBook Art 14 in Moscow, it was constantly raining, and the sky was overcast. Therefore, it was not possible to put the screen in direct sunlight. But this did not prevent us from sitting on a wet bench in the park and working.
What can I say – the OLED screen demonstrated miracles of contrast, so it was not difficult to make out work documents. However, due to the glossy surface, the display was a little glare, so I had to tinker with the correct angle so that tree branches were not shown on it. In general, the MagicBook Art 14 can be safely taken with you to nature, but in sunny weather, do not expect miracles.
By train and subway
The work process can overtake anywhere: once the author of this text saw how in the vestibule of a Moscow suburban train an unfortunate woman with a laptop in her hands was conducting a call, discussing with “dear colleagues” the nuances of hunting “specialists of the senior plus level”. Agree that if you work in such uncomfortable conditions, then it is best to do it on the most suitable equipment for this.
The miniature size of the MagicBook Art 14 allows us to do this, so we decided to edit the article right on the train. The equipment did not bother anyone on its knees – the neighbor in the chair did not even notice that the author took out a laptop. Thanks to the large buttons on the keyboard, it is convenient to type, even though it was a little shaky on the train. Let’s praise the huge touchpad again – you can even do complex manipulations without a mouse.
Conclusion
If you often travel on business trips or just like to get involved in work in the most unexpected places, then MagicBook Art 14 is the right choice. The device fits even into small backpacks, you can get it anywhere, and it will work for about 10 hours without recharging.
