The vivo X Fold5 will be announced on June 25 (Wednesday next week), but the company is already teasing some key aspects of the phone. For example, earlier this month it posted this image that compared X Fold5’s thickness against the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Another teaser showed that the new model is lighter than the X Fold3 Pro. Neither teaser offered concrete numbers, though.

For the past few days, Vivo has been teasing the key features of the Vivo X Fold5 before its launch in China. While it has revealed several details, it is yet to confirm the chipset that will power the device. In a new development, a new Vivo phone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip has appeared on Geekbench. It is speculated that this device could be the upcoming Vivo X Fold5.

vivo product manager Han Boxiao has shared new details about the upcoming Vivo X Fold5 foldable smartphone. According to a company spokesperson, the device will offer customers a significant improvement in the user experience when working in multitasking mode, as well as acquire a high-tech battery with increased capacity.

Vivo X Fold5

One of the main features of the vivo X Fold5 will be the Atomic Workbench function, which allows you to Run five apps on the same screen at once. For example, without looking up from the gameplay, the user will be able to make a video call at the same time, view presentations, monitor the stock market, and respond to emails. The firmware interface supports interoperability between all five windows in real time.

Now vivo exec Han Boxiao has decided to remove some of the ambiguity – “the X Fold5 is about 2mm thinner and 20 grams lighter” than the X Fold3 Pro. That would mean a 216g phone that measures 9.2mm thick when closed (sub 5mm when opened, but the exact number depends on the hinge design).

Unlike other brands pursuing thinness, vivo is not sacrificing battery life – the new model will have a 6,000mAh battery, 300mAh more than the thicker and heavier older model. This will be achieved with the industry’s first fourth-generation silicon anode, writes Han. The silicon content will be 2.5x higher, which will increase battery density by 13%. Additionally, the battery will feature a second-generation semi-solid electrolyte, which will allow it to remain functional to very low temperatures of -30°C (-22°F).

Vivo X Fold5

The alleged Vivo X Fold5 bearing the model number V2436A has emerged in Geekbench’s database. The CPU and GPU (via source code) details confirm that the device is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The same chip powered the China-exclusive Vivo X-Fold3, which debuted last year.

While competing models such as the Oppo Find N5 and the upcoming Honor Magic V5 pack the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, vivo has decided to use the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip to power the X Fold 5, probably to make it available at a more affordable price.

The Geekbench listing has further revealed that the Vivo X Fold5 is equipped with 16GB RAM and Android 15. In the single-core and multi-core tests, the device achieved 2,270 and 6,913 points, respectively. Previous teasers have told us that the vivo X Fold5 will set a new benchmark for ingress protection on foldables – IP5X for solids and IPX9+ for water. IP48 is the current best rating on a foldable. The IPX9+ rating specifically refers to the ability to fold and unfold the phone while it is submerged in water.

The vivo X Fold5 will run Android 15 with the OriginOS 5 shell. The latter supports the ability to synchronize with Apple Watch and iCloud, the function of messaging and calls between ecosystems, as well as remote access to PCs with the ability to connect to a Mac.

The vivo X Fold5 is tipped to feature an 8.03-inch 8T LTPO expansive display when unfolded and a 6.53-inch LTPO OLED cover display when folded. The handset may offer a 4500-nit local peak brightness with a TÜV Rheinland global eye protection 3.0 certification. Under the hood, it may be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, coupled with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.  Additionally, the phone may also house dual 32-megapixel sensors on the inner and outer screens. vivo X Fold5 is rumored to launch in India alongside the Vivo X200 FE in mid-July i.e., July 10. However, there are no concrete details on the same.
