The Honor 400 is a much more angular device with more flat surfaces. The middle frame has nicely curved edges, but that’s about it. Unlike the Pro model, with its curvy display, the Honor 400 is flat on both the front and the back. It is a pretty thin and light device, which is always appreciated. Its display is a definite standout feature. It gets very bright and is also HDR-certified.

Representatives of the Honor number line maintain the status of leading players in the upper middle class, each time surprising with something new: this time the highlight is exclusive AI developments and long support. However, the pleasant surprises do not end there – we tell you more in the review.

Honor 400

At least, it’s beautiful

What the Honor 400 cannot be denied is aesthetics. We have a copy of the color “Desert Gold” for review. The metal-treated rear glass, the brushed aluminum frame, flat edges with rounded corners, polished rings around the cameras and flashes – all this creates a feeling of openwork grace, no “washers”, black holes, gaudy sequins and disguised plastic. And the case is not afraid of splashes, dust and drops with shocks, because the protection according to the IP66 standard and a five-star SGS certificate are declared.

Honor 400 is 6.55-inch screen is quite compact by today’s standards, the bezels around it are minimal, so the smartphone fits well in a lady’s palm. The weight of the device is 184 grams with a thickness of 7.3 mm. On the right side there are volume and power keys, the left side is free of functional elements.

On top there is a place for an infrared port, a microphone and one of the stereo speakers. At the bottom there is a Type-C connector, a second speaker and a slot for two SIM cards, as well as the main microphone. An optical fingerprint scanner is integrated into the display. The screen out of the box is covered with a thin protective film – it will be enough for the first time of use, but for a long time it is better to get more durable and resistant to mechanical damage glass.

Honor 400 Camera for all two hundred

On the back of the smartphone, there is a slight protrusion of the photo block, Honor 400 is represented by two cameras and a flash. The main lens flaunts a resolution of 200 megapixels (sensor size 1/1.4″, aperture f/1.9, optical stabilization). By default, pictures are saved at 12 megapixels, 16 pixels (0.56 μm each) are combined into one.

This achieves an imitation of a larger matrix, and the final pixel size is already 2.24 μm. This allows you to get a more detailed picture – especially in conditions of insufficient illumination for a sharp frame. At the same time, daytime shots are colorful, HDR gives a wide dynamic range, the picture comes out juicy and without dips in the shadows. With a double digital zoom, photos practically do not lose quality.

The ultra-wide-angle lens has a resolution of 12 megapixels and has an aperture of f/2.2. In general, it lives up to expectations – during the day you can achieve decent quality, but in the dark you can’t expect miracles, although the AI pulls out the most problematic moments.

The smartphone tries its best to show more impressive results than the physical capabilities of a relatively budget sensor allow. The effect is achieved due to a rich AI toolkit. Sometimes this really creates the illusion of the presence of a lens with a long focal length, but sometimes the neural system interprets reality too freely. The first two frames in the selection below clearly depict the situation “before” and “after”. The rest of the photos show 4x, 10x and 30x zooms using AI superzoom.

Night mode competently copes with noise. The automatic system perfectly works out flares. However, it takes a little more time to process and save the image. The first frame in the selection below is in normal mode, the second is in night mode.

Honor 400 front camera is represented by a module with a solid resolution of 50 megapixels. It is located in the middle of the upper part of the screen. Selfie lovers will appreciate the large number of filters and retouching options — for the average user, their number is even excessive. Blur is quite gentle; it is turned on and off with a light tap on the corresponding icon on the screen.

Honor 400 Video capabilities are limited to 30 frames per second for 4K resolution. This is cut at the software level – a relatively powerful hardware platform with a built-in neural processor is able to “pull” 60 FPS. Like the previous Honor numbered model, the four-hundredth is equipped with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor with a 4 nm process. This is a fairly powerful solution of the sub-flagship level, the cores of which are designed according to the 1 + 3 + 4 scheme. In total, there are four productive Cortex-A715 cores (one at 2.63 GHz, three at 2.4 GHz) and four Cortex-A510 cores responsible for energy efficiency.

If we draw an analogy with competitors from Mediatek, then the processing power of 7 Gen 3 is between the Dimensity 7400 and 8400. In practice, we get a level sufficient for any tasks of a modern user — from smooth switching between tabs to high graphics settings in AAA games and nimble editing of videos in CapCut. With memory, everything is fine, the test sample got 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. In AnTuTu v10, we got 862,415 points.

The Turbo X Game Engine is designed for serious gaming sessions, and it is unlikely that the slowdowns will begin in the next few years – the manufacturer guarantees long-term support for the software. In Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat, the FPS counter showed 120 frames per second. Shadow Fight 4 keeps a stable 60 FPS — not all games have had time to adapt for smoother frame changes. There were no hints of jamming or overheating.

The hero of the review does not ask for an outlet in vain. In PCMARK Work 3.0, the battery life Honor 400 lasted 13 hours and 46 minutes at 50% brightness, during which time the charge dropped from 80% to 20%. This allows you to count on several days of work with moderate use. Get up to 34 hours of mobile talk time or 17 hours of video streaming.

Honor 400 is capacity of the silicon-carbon battery is 6000 mAh – solid for a fairly thin and compact body. It can withstand cold temperatures down to -20 °C, which means that severe frosts will not interfere with use. The ability to stay connected and even record videos is provided for conditions close to extreme. In addition, the manufacturer promises impressive durability – in four years, the battery should retain more than 80% of the resource. The hero of the review came with an 80W charger, it takes less than an hour to fully replenish energy with it, and the smartphone gains the first 40% in 15 minutes.

Honor 400 smartest

Honor 400 runs MagicOS 9.0 based on Android 15. On the one hand, the smooth shell is not overloaded with an excess of unnecessary functions and is not cluttered with advertising. On the other hand, the user is offered a carefully thought-out arsenal of tools collected for a wide variety of scenarios.

Built into almost every program, AI makes the most of its capabilities. Text generation, speech to text conversion from video, audio or from a Dictaphone in real time, intelligent translation into the desired language and deepfake recognition via video communication – everything is focused on creating a comfortable and safe environment for work, study and leisure, where even folders and icons can be customized based on your tastes and preferences.

Honor 400 is a device for those who are looking for a smartphone for years, because the gadget will receive at least two major updates (to the conditional Android 17) and will be updated for several more years in the mode of additional packages. Manufacturers have kept the balance of the characteristics of their predecessor and were able to distinguish the current version from competitors due to powerful AI tools. The only sad thing is that the hero of the review was left without a telephoto camera – neurozoom, for all its manufacturability, is not yet on equal terms with real optics.
