ASUS ROG Phone 9 could get a processor and display upgrade. The future ASUS flagship was noted in the Geek bench database. In addition to the computing capabilities of the processor, the test report revealed another important characteristic of the smartphone. As it turned out, in the top configuration, the gadget will compete with modern laptops in terms of memory capacity. However, the charging speed and memory configuration appear to be similar to the ROG Phone 8 Pro. Based on current indications, the Phone 9 series could come early.
As expected, the ASUS ROG Phone 9 has started appearing on certification websites well ahead of its official launch. The phone has been spotted on China’s certification body CQC. The listing gives away the upcoming ROG Phone’s charging speed. Meanwhile, the tipster who spotted this has claimed the phone’s processor, display, and memory configuration. The alleged specs are flagship-grade but nothing surprising here.
ASUS ROG Phone 9 series IMEI database
A new AndroidHeadlines report shares a snapshot of the ASUS ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro on the IMEI database.
We also see the ASUSAI2501C model number, which suggests the phones will launch in China and perhaps India. We could see this string of letters again in the months leading up to the ROG Phone 9 series launch.
This is earlier than when the ROG Phone 8 series appeared on the IMEI website with the model number ASUS_AI2401_A.
ASUS ROG Phone 9 series specifications, features (expected)
The report also speculates that the ROG Phone 9 could run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. Its predecessor had a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC inside. The new chip is rumoured to come with TSMC’s 3nm architecture, Nuvia’s 2+6 design, and up to 4.2GHz clock speed. So, the ROG Phone 9 lineup could be more powerful and power efficient.
The phones could also benefit from a new in-house cooling solution that could keep the temperatures in check during a long gaming session. Meanwhile, the current-gen ROG phones have a clip-on cooler that claims to cool the device by as much as 26 degrees Celsius.
For hardcore gamers, the ROG Phone 9 could offer AirTriggers, which is already available on previous ROG phones. These would be dedicated buttons for more accurate controls. Moreover, you could also get RGB lights for a visual flair. The ROG Phone 8 series also has the Aura RGB logo and a Mini-LED 341-element display. Let’s see how ASUS improves this on the new lineup.
ASUS ROG Phone 9 series launch timeline
The publication expects the ROG Phone 9 series to launch sometime in Q1 2025. It doesn’t have more precise information at this point. But it is possible since the ROG Phone 8 series also launched in January 2024.
The published test results in the TensorFlow Lite CPU Interference discipline demonstrate the capabilities of the gadget when working with AI computing. The device, built on the basis of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, scored 1812 points – this is a good indicator for a mobile device.
According to the source, the ASUS ROG Phone 9 (or its Pro version) will be equipped with 24 GB of RAM in the maximum configuration. In addition, judging by the mention of Android 15, the gadget will go on sale with this version of the operating system. The presentation of the novelty is scheduled for November 19, the price has not yet been announced.
